Premium Wen Shan Bao Zhong

$25.00
This exceptional oolong tea is grown at high elevations near the Wen Shan mountains within Ping Lin county in Northern Taiwan and processed in a specific style unique to authentic Bao Zhong oolong tea.
After picking, the leaves are withered and slightly rolled. Bao Zhong (also sometimes called Pouchong) oolong is lightly oxidized towards the greener end of the spectrum of oolong teas, as opposed to more heavily oxidized oolongs like a Wuyi oolong.
The name "Bao Zhong" comes from the Chinese for "wrapped paper" and refers to historic practices when the tea was protected during the heating of the oxidation process by wrapping it in paper.
The flavor of Bao Zhong oolong tea is fresh, similar to a light green tea but with a distinct complexity including natural floral, buttery notes that wash over the upper palate ending in a clean finish.
For those who enjoy green teas and are interested in exploring oolong teas, Bao Zhong is an excellent first choice as well as an enduring favorite. This tea easily brews 2-3 infusions from the same leaves and is a wonderful tea to share or to brew multiple times any time of the day.
How to Prepare Wen Shan Oolong Tea: Heat water to 175-180˚F (adding a little cool water to the boiling water to reduce the temperature) and add one teaspoon loose leaf tea per cup (apprx. 8 ounces). Infuse the tea leaves for 2-3 minutes depending on taste preference. It may be infused 2-4 additional times.
Oolong teas are traditionally prepared in smaller Yixing tea pots or porcelain tea pots and shared in smaller cups using the pot to brew subsequent infusions. Create your own ceremony or prepare the tea by the cup.
Experiment - oolong teas have an incredible range of subtle flavor profiles depending on how they are prepared, how long they are brewed, the purity of the water used, etc. and yet they are hardy enough to shine through such a wide range of brewing methods. Everyone finds their own favorite way to prepare and enjoy an exceptional oolong tea.
